ALAN TRUONG

ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR & OrcheSTARS!

A Salinas-born Chinese-American, Alan Truong is the Assistant Conductor and an OrcheSTARS! teacher. He has previously been Music Director of the Oberlin String Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra’s Philharmonia. He has been a conducting fellow at the Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute, Eastern Music Festival, and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.

Having started his music education at YOSAL, Alan is dedicated to the idea that being a conductor comes with a huge platform that can greatly affect social change through performance of neglected composers, education for under-resourced students, and community outreach. Mentors include Raphael Jimenez, Tim Weiss, and Farkhad Khudyev. At the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, from which he graduated in May 2021, he collaborated extensively with the multitude of ensembles such as the Oberlin Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonietta, and Arts and Sciences Orchestra.

In addition to conducting, Alan has appeared as a bassoonist in performances with the Monterey Symphony, Monterey Pops Orchestra, and Oberlin Orchestra.
