On Friday, May 31, 2013, Youth Orchestra Salinas (YOSAL) cordially invites you to their Spring Concert Grand Finale at 6:30 p.m. at the Steinbeck Institute of Arts & Culture at Sherwood Hall, located at 940 N. Main Street in Salinas. Admission is FREE!
The presentation will feature performances by our pre-orchestra and full orchestra with students from the program’s nucleus at Martin Luther King School, King City and Sherwood Hall.
“Because they rehearse every day of the week, the YoSal students are improving exponentially,” said Executive Director Colleen Bailey. “Just as important, they are working as an ensemble, learning to listen to and appreciate one another’s unique contribution. That is what this program is all about.”
This end of the year concert will be under the direction of YoSal’s new Artistic Director, Maestro Juan Felipe Molano and other instructors.
Under Molano’s direction, 160 young musicians will lead the audience with music from Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Latin icon Carlos Santana, and so much more.
This is a unique concert where both Salinas and King City students come together, promising to be one of the most upbeat, inspirational, and sensational youth concerts in our area.
For many students, this is not only their first time with such advanced performing challenges, but it is also their very first time on stage in front of a live audience! The community at large is invited to attend this free concert.
Youth Orchestra Salinas began its program with 40 students at Rancho Cielo on July 8, 2010. Currently, it serves over 250 students at five sites, including the Steinbeck Institute of Arts and Culture at Sherwood Hall, Martin Luther King Junior Academy in the Alisal Union School District, Los Padres Elementary School, Kamman Elementary School, and King City. Its mission is to transform the lives of our youth, families and communities through the inspiration, discipline and performance of classical orchestral music.
